Visa questions from
applicants in Uganda
Straight answers to the questions visa applicants in Uganda ask most. If yours is not here, message a consultant on WhatsApp and we will answer it.
General visa questions
The basics, for anyone applying for the first time.
What does a visa consultant actually do?
A visa consultant helps you understand which visa categories may be relevant, explains the requirements, prepares a personalised document checklist as part of our paid services, reviews your documents with you, guides you through the application form and the appointment, and prepares you for the process. What a consultant cannot do is decide your application; that belongs to the embassy.
Can an agency process my visa for me?
No, and it is worth being clear about this. Only the embassy or immigration authority of the destination country can issue a visa. Any agency describing itself as processing visas, or promising approval, is misrepresenting what it does. We provide application assistance.
How much does visa application assistance cost?
It depends on the destination and the level of support you need, and it is separate from the government visa fee and any visa application centre charges. We quote the full cost for your case before you commit. The first eligibility check is free.
How early should I start my application?
Two to three months before you travel for most destinations, and longer for student visas, where funding evidence often has to be held in an account for a set period before you apply. Appointment availability in Kampala can add weeks, so earlier is always safer.
Do you help applicants outside Kampala?
Yes. We work with clients across Uganda, including Entebbe, Wakiso, Mukono, Jinja, Mbarara and Gulu, mostly over WhatsApp and email. You will still need to attend your appointment in Kampala in person for biometrics.
Documents, money and evidence
Where most applications succeed or fail.
Need a checklist?
Our paid services include a personalised checklist for your destination and visa type.
Request a checklistHow much money do I need in my bank account?
Most destinations publish no fixed minimum for a visitor visa. What matters is that your funds clearly cover the trip you have described and that the money has a traceable history. A modest balance built steadily is stronger than a large sum that appears the week before you apply.
How many months of bank statements do I need?
Three to six months is the usual range, stamped by your bank. If there are unusual deposits, be ready to explain where the money came from. We review your statements with you before submission and tell you how they will read to an officer.
What if I am self-employed or paid in cash?
You evidence your income differently: business registration, trading records, tax records where you have them, and bank deposits that match your stated earnings. This takes more preparation than a salaried application, and it is a common reason self-employed applicants come to us.
Do my documents need to be translated?
Any document not in English usually needs a certified translation. Requirements about who may certify differ by destination. We tell you which of your documents need translating and to what standard.
Do I need travel insurance?
For a Schengen visa it is mandatory, with a minimum of β¬30,000 of medical cover valid across the area. For most other destinations it is strongly recommended rather than required. We can arrange cover as part of our travel services.
Refusals and reapplying
What a refusal means and what to do next.
Been refused before?
Send us the refusal letter and we will tell you honestly what your options are.
Ask about a refusalWhy are visa applications from Uganda refused?
Most commonly because the officer was not satisfied the applicant would return, because the finances did not match the trip described, because information was inconsistent between documents, or because something required was missing or in the wrong format. Nearly all of these are preparation problems rather than eligibility problems.
Can I reapply after a refusal?
Usually yes, and in most cases immediately. The question worth asking is whether anything has changed. Reapplying with the same evidence usually produces the same answer, and you pay the fee again either way.
Does a refusal stay on my record?
Yes. Application forms typically ask whether you have ever been refused a visa by any country, and you must answer honestly. An undisclosed refusal discovered later is far more damaging than the refusal itself.
Can you appeal a visa refusal?
Appeal rights depend on the destination and the visa category, and for most visitor visas there is no right of appeal. Usually the practical route is a fresh, better-evidenced application. We advise on which applies to your case.
The application process
Appointments, biometrics, interviews and timelines.
Where do I submit my application in Kampala?
It depends on the destination. UK applicants attend TLScontact, US applicants attend the US Embassy for an interview, and other destinations use their own visa application centres or embassies. We tell you exactly where to go and what to bring.
What are biometrics and do I need to give them?
Biometrics are your fingerprints and a digital photograph, collected in person at the visa application centre. Most destinations require them. For Canada they are generally valid for ten years, so you may not need to repeat them for a later application.
Will I have an interview?
The United States interviews nearly all applicants. Most other destinations decide on the documents, though any of them can call you for an interview if something needs clarifying. We prepare you either way where an interview is likely.
How long does a visa take?
It varies widely: a UAE tourist visa can take three to five working days, a UK visitor visa about three weeks, and a Canadian application anywhere from weeks to months. Appointment availability in Kampala adds to all of these. Plan for longer than the published time.
Can I travel while my application is being processed?
Not usually to the destination you have applied to, and your passport is often held at the visa application centre while the application is decided. Tell us if you have other travel planned and we will time the application around it.
