About the China visa for travellers from Uganda

Most travellers from Uganda go to China for business: buying stock in Guangzhou, Yiwu and Shenzhen, attending the Canton Fair, or meeting suppliers. Others go to study, often on scholarships, or to visit family. Each purpose has its own visa category, and the category decides which supporting documents the embassy expects.

Holders of ordinary Ugandan passports do not apply at the Chinese Embassy. Since January 2024 applications go through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center on Yusuf Lule Road in Kampala, and since March 2025 every application starts with an online form on the visa centre's website, which is reviewed before you are allowed to submit your documents in person.

Requirements

The process

How our China visa application assistance works

From your first question to your travel date, here is what our visa consultants in Kampala do at each step.

  1. 1

    Free eligibility check

    Same day

We look at why you are going and confirm the right visa category, because a trader on a tourist visa is the most common and most avoidable mistake.

  2. 2

    Checklist and invitation letter review

    1 to 2 days

You receive a checklist for your category. If you have an invitation letter, we check it contains everything the embassy asks for before your host sends the final version.

  3. 3

    Online application form

    Depends on online review

We complete the online form on the visa centre website with you, upload your documents, and wait for the centre to approve it before booking your submission.

  4. 4

    Submission at the visa centre

    One visit

You submit your printed form, passport, photograph and documents at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center on Yusuf Lule Road, Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm, and pay the fees there.

  5. 5

    Collection and next steps

    2 to 4 working days

Standard processing takes four working days, express three and urgent two. You collect your passport from the centre, and we check the visa details with you before you book anything final.

Official China visa information

Visa rules, fees and forms are set by the authorities, not by us. These are their official pages, so you can confirm the latest details yourself before you apply or pay.

Why China visa applications from Uganda get refused

We would rather tell you this before you apply than after. These are the patterns we see most often, and what we do about each one.

1

The visa category did not match the purpose of the trip

Travelling to buy stock or meet suppliers on a tourist visa, or attending a course on a business visa, is a common reason Chinese applications from Uganda run into trouble. The category has to match what you will actually do.

How we help

We confirm the category from your real plans before you fill in the form, and explain what each one allows.

2

The invitation letter was incomplete

The embassy expects the invitation to state your personal details, the purpose, dates and places of the visit, who pays, and the inviter's full details with a stamp or signature. Letters missing any of these are a frequent cause of delay.

How we help

We check the draft invitation against the published list before your host sends the final signed copy.

3

Your bookings and form told different stories

Flight dates, hotel dates and the dates on your online form need to agree. Officers notice when the itinerary and the application do not line up.

How we help

We cross-check every booking and document against the form so your application tells one consistent story.

4

Your finances or ties to Uganda were not clear

Where the purpose of the trip is unclear, officers look at whether you can pay for it and what brings you home: your job, your business or your studies in Uganda.

How we help

We review your statements and employment or business documents before submission and flag anything that needs explaining.

Ask on WhatsApp

Where do I apply for a Chinese visa in Kampala?

At the Chinese Visa Application Service Center, 1st floor, Plot 9, Yusuf Lule Road. Ordinary Ugandan passport holders apply there, not at the embassy. Holders of diplomatic or official passports still apply at the Chinese Embassy's consular section.

How much is a Chinese visa from Uganda?

A single-entry visa for Ugandan passport holders is UGX 290,000 at the reduced rate the embassy has extended to 31 December 2026. Double entry is UGX 440,000, and multiple-entry visas are UGX 590,000 or UGX 880,000. Express and urgent processing cost extra. Fees are paid at the visa centre and are not refunded if the application is refused. Our service fee is quoted separately.

How long does a Chinese visa take from Uganda?

Four working days once your documents are submitted at the visa centre, or three with express service and two with urgent service. Allow extra time before that for the online form to be reviewed, and apply well ahead of busy periods such as the Canton Fair.

Can you help me get a visa for the Canton Fair?

Yes. Traders attending the Canton Fair in Guangzhou normally apply for a business (M) visa with the fair's invitation. We help you register, check the invitation and prepare the rest of the application, and we can arrange flights and accommodation for the trip.

Can I transit through China without a visa on a Ugandan passport?

Not under the 240-hour visa-free transit scheme, which does not currently include any African country. If you need to leave the airport during a layover in China, you will normally need a visa. Check your airline's rules for staying airside before you book.

Do I need an interview for a Chinese visa?

Not usually. Most applications are decided on the documents. The visa centre or embassy can ask for more information or call you in, so keep your phone on and answer any request quickly.
